===== Yoga ===== Yoga as exercise, is a physical activity consisting mainly of postures, often connected by flowing sequences, sometimes accompanied by breathing exercises, and frequently ending with relaxation lying down or meditation ([[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoga_as_exercise|from wikipedia]]). ===== Reviews ===== Mindbody app has reviews of specific yoga teachers if you look up a specific yoga location, e.g. [[https://www.mindbodyonline.com/explore/locations/center-yoga|Center Yoga Mindbody page]]. However there isn't a way to look up a specific yoga instructor and reviews about their classes, as far as I know. So for now this page can be used to record yoga class experiences. ===== Phil Schuster, Ishta Yoga, 6:15pm "Flow + Restore" Class ===== * Date: May 22, 2024 * My level: Beginner-Intermediate * Pace: Medium * Difficulty of Moves: Beginner Great class, with a very strong focus on beginner-friendly restorative movements. Nice studio, although the layout is very long and being on the 2nd floor above Broadway meant you could hear the occasional police siren. ===== Jenny Mendez, exhale - Virgin Hotels NYC, 5:30pm "Exhale Flow+Chill" Class ===== * Date: May 17, 2024 * My level: Beginner-Intermediate * Pace: Medium-Fast, then Slow * Difficulty of Moves: Beginner Great instructor, but the class had an unusual structure. Pace felt a bit fast to me at first, and then about half-way through it became slow as we started deep 3-min poses, which felt a bit too long. The class yoga mats and blocks felt low-quality. The studio was above a restaurant which resulted in a slight food smell. At one point there was a very loud noise from the hallway, which connects to the hotel gym. Class ended with a nice, optional lavender aroma experience. The view of the city and the natural light were really great, and made the small space feel bigger than it is. ===== Emily Childers, Fierce Grace LES, 8:30am "The Fix" Class ===== * Date: Mar 22, 2024 * My level: Beginner-Intermediate * Pace: Medium-Fast * Difficulty of Moves: Beginner-Intermediate My first hot yoga class in a while. It was great. Really nice to do hot yoga after coming indoors from very cold weather. Beautiful studio. A bit tight with all the students, but somehow didn't feel cramped. The [[https://www.fiercegrace.com/find-your-class/fix|fix class]] is a mix of everything. ===== Kacper Chudzik, Center Yoga, 7:30am "Morning Flow" Class ===== * Date: Dec 18, 2023 * My level: Beginner * Pace: Medium-Fast * Difficulty of Moves: Intermediate Instructor was very good about suggesting adjustments. I enjoyed the class even though I have a different pace preference. ===== Hayley Antonelli, Center Yoga, 7:30am "Morning Flow" Class ===== * Date: Dec 13, 2023 * My level: Beginner * Pace: Medium * Difficulty of Moves: Beginner-Intermediate I enjoyed this class quite a bit. It was a tad fast for me at some points, but the moves felt really good, and the rhythm of the pace was very consistent. I also liked that the instructor's small dog was quietly napping next to her during the class. The class was full, but I had a comfortable amount of room having secured a good spot next to the wall about 10 min before class. ===== Luis Dávila, St. Marks Yoga, 7:30am Class ===== * Date: Sept 26, 2023 * My level: Beginner * Pace: Medium-Fast * Difficulty of Moves: Intermediate Luis seemed very knowledgeable, experienced, and kind. He was in full control of the class and very present. The pace was a bit quick for me, and the difficulty of moves was sometimes more than I could handle. I was hoping for an easier and slower paced class at 7:30am. Sort of a wake me up, stretch me out, get me ready for the day kind of thing. Several times I felt a bit overwhelmed with the instructor's direction, and ended up going into my child pose to recover. I think it's a great class for a more experienced student. ===== Attribute List ===== * Difficulty of Moves: Beginner, Beginner-Intermediate, Intermediate, Intermediate-Advanced, Advanced * Pace: Slow, Slow-Medium, Medium, Medium-Fast, Fast
